In Leon, Decatur County Hospital Auxiliary Provides Significant Support in Short Time

Decatur County Hospital
Leon, IA

The Decatur County Hospital Auxiliary in Leon has a relatively short history, but in just over 10 years it has helped the hospital make significant improvement as the auxilians fulfill their mission is to support and promote the health and welfare for the population served by the hospital.

In 2011, the Auxiliary made a pledge to the New Hospital Fund for $80,000. This would justify the space allocated to the “Just Because” gift shop in the lobby. Many bake sales, jewelry sales, revenue from the gift shop and the golf tournaments allowed the auxiliary members to fulfill their pledge in 2017.

Now, though this pledge is paid off, it isn’t the end of the auxiliary’s endeavors to support the hospital. The auxiliary with its 22 members continues to give an annual scholarship to students studying in health care fields, contributes a little extra something to the employee fund and supports other hospital activities, including a golf tournament, jewelry sale, Christmas bazaar, Valentine’s Day bake sale and various raffles and fundraisers.

“Our auxiliary is proof of how a small but determined and generous group of people can make a difference for their community,” said Greg Boattenhamer. “They have a lot to be proud of and the hospital has a lot to look forward to because of them.”
