Geri Barnett Brings Community to Thanksgiving

Geri Barnett Brings Community to Thanksgiving

Fort Madison Community Hospital
Fort Madison, IA

Geri Barnett is a registered nurse tasked with overseeing quality measures in Fort Madison Community Hospital (FMCH) physician clinics. But when Thanksgiving rolls around, she is the mastermind behind the Community Thanksgiving.

Geri helped resurrect this annual event when she realized there was a huge need for providing a place for people to go to enjoy a hot Thanksgiving meal. This event has grown where 900 meals were served this year with more than half being home-delivered. This speaks to the unseen food insecurity in a community of 11,000. Geri was also successful in recruiting a full team of volunteers this year from FMCH as this video showcases.
